With the November international break now behind us, manager Marcelo Bielsa is gearing up his Leeds United first team squad for this weekend’s trip to Kenilworth Road to face off against Luton Town.
With on loan Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah sidelined and with few details being given about his abdominal injury, fans are naturally concerned, especially given the ongoing rumours that a recall clause would kick in in January if his game time wasn’t at a certain level.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post on Thurday, Bielsa admitted that there wasn’t any good news on Nketiah for this weekend, but there was a confident expectation that the five goal 20-year-old would return to group training next week.
“We don’t know if Cooper is going to play yet. Dallas and Cooper are healthy but we will have to see. Nketiah is not ready yet, but next week he will start working with the group. Gjanni Alioski is good.”
Questioned more about Nketiah, he added.
“He is training. It’s different when you train to when you train with the group and after it is necessary to consider the time he was without training. For instance, Dallas played on Saturday, five days ago and Cooper 12 days ago. So there are different situations between Dallas and Cooper. After Eddie starts to train with the group, he will be ready to compete. One thing is being healthy and another being ready to compete. It is necessary to consider the time he was without training.”
Given Eddie was expected to get his first league start against Queens Park Rangers, as long as he does return to training next week that will be a massive boost to our options up front again. In better news, we can welcome back Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski, but doubts remain about Liam Cooper, Jamie Shackleton and Adam Forshaw.
